IOM trains police authorities on the use of technologies for counterfeiting and identification of documents

Tirana, 21-22 May 2022 – A two-day training on document control and the use of technologies for counterfeiting and identification of documents was organized in Tirana. 

32 participants from the Directorate of Border and Migration at Tirana International Airport, ports of Durres, Saranda and Vlora, border crossings in Dibra, Kukes, Gjirokastra, Saranda, Shkodra and Korca and the Institute of Scientific Police, attended an intensive training to strengthen knowledge and practical skills on: 

  • Security systems for identity and travel documents.
  • Document analysis, printing techniques and identification of documents.
  • Biometrics and biometric identification and authentication on Biofad systems.

The training paid a special focus on the Biofad Solution. A technology used for mobility and border control. It assists police authorities with biometrics identification and authentication as well as visual inspection of documents and electronic control.

Through the Western Balkans Integrated Management Capacity Building Facility #WBIBM, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, IOM enhances border management among Western Balkans authorities supporting their effective rights-based response to border security challenges.
