IOM-GIZ Cooperation Online Workshop
On June 29, 2020 was held online the second edition of the IOM-GIZ Cooperation Workshop, with participation of around 70 staff from the respective organizations.
The discussion of this workshop aimed at enhancing the sense of partnership and culture of mutual trust based on an improved understanding and mutual recognition of organizations’ different roles and mandates. In the workshop examples of successful cooperation in the past were shared through in-depth discussions at technical level; an overview of various forms of IOM-GIZ cooperation was provided to further identify areas for future cooperation.
The discussion focused particularly on two thematic areas: (1) Migration Governance, the IOM’s coordinating role of the United Nations Network on Migration and (2) Return and Reintegration, the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic on operations/movements in the medium to long term.
IOM and the GIZ have been cooperating for decades in various places, forms and intensity. The cooperation has intensified and grown substantively over the course of numerous cooperation projects. In March 2019, the first IOM – GIZ Cooperation Workshop took place and participants from both organizations exchanged on the vision, experiences and expectations of this cooperation.
