IOM and INSTAT to produce an Assessment for the labour market needs in countries of destination and the impact on the Albanian labour force

For the first time, IOM Albania in close cooperation with the Institute of Statistics, is working on an assessment of the labour market needs in select countries of destination and their impact on the Albanian labour force.

As recognized in the National Strategy on Migration 2019-2022, labour migration of Albanian citizens is likely to remain a major factor influencing the country’s development. However, even though the information is vital for addressing potential challenges to the national labour market, no assessments of migration’s impact on the labour market have taken place so far.

On June 6, in a joint roundtable with important stakeholders from the public and private sectors, and the civil society, we presented the initial findings of the assessment. Mrs. Alma Jani, Head of Office of IOM Mission in Albania and Mrs. Elsa Dhuli, General Director of INSTAT, underlined the importance of the assessment which aims to contribute to enriching the migration data and statistics, addressing existing gaps.

Through this Assessment, the project aims to address this need and assist government institutions in Albania to collect and analyse data on labour migration whilst making use of migration forecasts to develop labour migration policies.

This assessment, that will help decision-makers to drive the development of labour migration policies in Albania, is carried out in the framework of the project “Strengthening Labour Migration Framework in Albania”, funded by the IOM Development Fund, and implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance and Economy, Ministry of Interior, INSTAT, Albanian School of Public Administration and the National Agency for Employment and Skills.
