IOM Albania strengthens cooperation with State Police to enhance migration management

IOM met with the Director General of the State Police, Muhamet Rrumbullaku, to discuss ongoing collaboration and explore opportunities for further cooperation in migration management. The meeting emphasized the shared commitment to addressing migration challenges in Albania and the Western Balkans region.

With funding from the governments of Denmark, Norway, and the United Kingdom, IOM has supported the State Police in strengthening capacities for readmission and integrated border management. This collaboration has been crucial for ensuring that Albania is well-equipped to manage migration flows in line with international standards.

During the meeting, Director General Rrumbullaku expressed his appreciation for IOM’s longstanding support, particularly in initiatives aimed at enhancing border management systems, technology, and operational efficiency. He also highlighted the Albanian Government’s dedication to treating migration issues following best international practices, emphasizing the importance of ongoing project implementation to improve equipment and technology.

IOM Albania remains committed to working closely with the State Police and the Government of Albania to further improve the migration governance framework. By deepening collaboration, IOM aims to continue facilitating sustainable solutions that uphold the protection of vulnerable migrants, strengthen border security, and enhance Albania’s overall capacity to manage migration effectively.
