Migrant remittances have been and continue to be a significant source of income for Albanian families. According to the Bank of Albania, approximately 34% of Albanian families have cover their basic needs, access education and contribute to their community development thanks to the remittances.

During the last years diaspora has been increasingly engaging not only through remittances, but also with know – how transfer, concrete projects and critical support during crisis, as we saw after the earthquake in 2019 and Covid-19 pandemic.

Today, the Albanian Diaspora has an opportunity, not only to support their families and relatives through remittances, but also to channel them towards Albanian’s economic development, using Connect Albania, which engages the diaspora members as Development Agents, aiming to boost and facilitate the investment to the home country.

In this video, the IOM Albania Diaspora Programme Manager, Ms. Manoela Lussi, speaks on the role of diaspora in the social and economic development of Albania, while
Albanian Diaspora members highlight why they support their families, relatives and home country through remittances.
