Our WorkAs the leading inter-governmental organization promoting humane and orderly migration, IOM plays a key role to support the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through different areas of intervention that connect both humanitarian assistance and sustainable development. Humanitarian Border Management Training
12 February 2020, Korça Albania: 25 representatives from Border and Migration Police, Regional State Social Service, Child Protection Unit, Anti Trafficking Police, Public Health, and other local stakeholders actively participated in the Humanitarian Border Management training organized by IOM – UN Migration Agency in cooperation with Ministry of Interior, Asylum and citizenship Directorate, Directorate of Anti Trafficking and Migration, Border and Migration Department, Korça Regional Anti Trafficking Committee; UNHCR Albania, OSCE Albania and other partners.
Mixed migratory flows, defining differences and similarities between migrants and refugees; Registration of migrants and refugees, collection of useful data in the Albanian context; Profiling, identification and referral of vulnerable groups (including unaccompanied and separated children and victims/potential victims of trafficking) in mixed migratory flows and Contingency Planning were the topics covered.
“There is an immediate need to prioritize and financially support the implementation of Social Plans prepared by Local Municipalities in order to respond to these challenges that Local Government face, especially the ones at the border areas” – highlighted the representative of Local State Social Service.
The training was organized in the framework of the project “Improving Reception Capacities and access to services for migrants and refugees entering Albania through Kapshtica, Korça” funded from a MRF GRANT received through the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB).
