E-Campus, a New Online Platform to Train Border Guards Related to COVID-19 Cases Management
“The COVID-19 pandemic has severely tested us. Providing an effective response to the global pandemic has required the Border Police to demonstrate not only effective planning and coordination skills, but also the ability to clearly communicate in a consistent way with all our partners” says Mr. Eduart Merkaj, the Director of Department for Border and Migration Police.
To provide clearer guidance to all actors, in August 2020, through IOM's project suported from #EUForeignPolicy , Albania Border Police adopted the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Border and Migration Police Officers in relation to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The SOPs defines steps for screening, detection, registration, isolation, and referral of suspected COVID-19 cases. To operationalize the SOPs, IOM is developing an online training for border guards in collaboration with the E-Campus platform.
The IOM E-Campus is the learning platform developed by the Organization for external audience. It is a free and virtual space with online courses and training materials on migration. The E-Campus courses are prepared by experts in topics that converge with migration. Currently there are more than 25 courses in Spanish, English, French, Italian and Arabic (the languages offered depend on the course, they are translated periodically).
E-Campus is an ideal platform to strengthen knowledge of migration practitioners, civil servants, civil society, private sector, students, academics, and anyone who is interested in migration related matters. Completing each course takes an average of 3 hours and upon completion IOM delivered a certificate of achievement.
