In the last months, IOM and the Ministry of Interior organized 7 regional meetings in Tirane, Shkoder, Diber, Fier, Vlore, Elbasan and Korce, with migration and diaspora professionals, aiming for better and more effective cooperation between the central and local governments.

127 participants at the municipal and prefecture level and representatives from the Regional Border and Migration Directorates, were part of the information sessions, where the needs for establishing and strengthening of municipal structures for migration and diaspora in all municipalities and the involvement of the local level in strategic planning of migration governance, were identified.

Among other topics, the discussions were focused on:
•    Improving the Coordination of Migration Governance in Albania and effective coordination between central and local government,
•    Global Compact for Safe and Regular Migration,
•    The National Migration Strategy and Action Plan 2019-2022 and the remaining measures to be implemented by the end of this year.

We are thankful for all the Prefects for hosting and professionals for joining us in fruitful discussions on recent developments in migration-related issues and good governance of migration.

This cycle of meetings took place within the project "Improving Coordination for Migration Governance in Albania", jointly implemented by GIZ Albania and IOM Tirana, through the financial support of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, on behalf of the Federal Ministry German for Economic Cooperation and Development.
