IOM Head of Office meets local stakeholders in Saranda region to introduce the Mobile Team service
Saranda, 28-29 September 2023 – IOM Albania Head of Office Alma Jani had a series of meetings with local stakeholders in the Saranda region to introduce the Mobile Team in Konsipol Municipality.
IOM Albania has recently introduced mobile services in the southernmost municipality of Konispol in the border with Greece. This is a significant step in our commitment to respond to challenges and provide services to migrants entering the country through Qafe Bota Border Crossing Point.
The Head of Office had productive discussions with key stakeholders in the Saranda Region, including meetings with representatives of Saranda Municipality, the Mayor of Konispol and Border Police officials at the Registration and Temporary Accommodation Center in Qafe Bota. The latter was established earlier this year, has the capacity to accommodate 60 irregular migrants and provides dedicated spaces for migrant registration, interviewing of vulnerable individuals, child-friendly spaces, a medical outpatient clinic and dedicated containers to ensure proper hygienic and sanitation conditions.
These discussions aimed to streamline the operations of the IOM Albania Mobile Team and reinforce its role as a valuable asset in identifying vulnerabilities of migrants, providing psycho-social assistance, facilitating referrals to specialized service providers and supporting the local actors in the area.
