Municipal staff trained on practical tools for migration management
IOM Albania organized three technical workshops in Kukes, Tirana, and Korça, bringing together over 50 professionals from 46 municipalities to strengthen their knowledge and practices on migration governance. The workshops targeted local Migration and Diaspora structures and served as a platform for discussion, knowledge exchange, and practical exercises.
Participants explored a wide range of key topics including Albania’s legal and institutional framework on migration, internal migration trends, the role of local authorities in supporting migrants, and the importance of inter-municipal and inter-institutional cooperation. The sessions also offered practical guidance on the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures and effective service delivery at the local level.
These workshops were conducted in the framework of the project “Strengthening Local Institutional Capacities on Migration in Albania”, funded by the UK Government. The initiative contributes to building stronger, more responsive local governance structures, enabling municipalities to better manage migration and provide more effective support to migrant communities across Albania.
Over the next two years, the initiative will work closely with all 61 municipalities in Albania to ensure better migration management, create stronger employment mechanisms, and support local development.
