Migration Governance Coordination Mechanism become fully operational with IOM support

Tirana – The Steering Group for Migration, a politically represented group of implementing institutions of the National Strategy on Migration (NSM), led by the Ministry of Interior, held its first meeting in 13 December, where the Annual Monitoring Reports of the National Strategy for Migration and Action Plan 2019-2022 for the periods June 2019 - June 2020 and July 2020 - June 2021 and the Medium Term Review Strategy Action Plan were presented.

The reports were prepared by the Technical Secretariat on Migration (STM) in the Ministry of Interior In the framework of the Migration Governance Coordination Mechanism. The progressive monitoring reports and the Medium-Term Strategy Review prior to the presentation and discussion in the Migration Steering Group were presented and discussed at the meeting of the Technical Committee on Migration, composed by the high-level executives of the implementing institutions of the NSM. 

The Steering Group meeting concluded for the first time a full cycle of functioning of the Migration Governance Coordination Mechanism in Albania created by orders of the Prime Minister during years 2020-2021, coordinated and supported by the TSM. The strengthening of the Migration Governance Coordination Mechanism and the conduction of the  Medium Term Strategy Action Plan Review is supported by IOM in Albania, in the framework of the project "Improving Coordination for Migration Governance in Albania" implemented jointly with GIZ Albania, through the financial support of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, on behalf of the Federal Ministry German for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
