The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Tirana implements Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration programmes for Albanian nationals returning from the West European countries mainly the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway, Ireland, Poland, Hungary, Finland, Italy and Switzerland. IOM Tirana provides reception and reintegration assistance for the returnees in compliance with the above programmes’ procedural requirements.
Upon referral of the Department of Border and Migration of Albania, IOM Tirana facilitates the voluntary return of stranded irregular migrants in Albania to their respective countries of origin.
Owing to its experience and the organization’s global presence, the mission in Tirana provides assistance to the relevant Albanian authorities to overcome challenges mainly related to the issuance of Temporary Travel Documents (TTD) and travel arrangements, especially in the case of stranded migrants whose countries’ diplomatic representation offices are either unavailable in Albania or cannot be reached by the Albanian counterparts abroad.
