The overall objective of the project is to strengthening the capacity of Western Balkan (WB) countries for applying common approaches and actions in responding to the challenges posed by the migration of unaccompanied minors (UAMs), in line with EU priorities and actions in the area. The project will apply a human rights-centred approach that takes into account the fundamental principles of decision making based on the best interest of the child. The project aims to: a) to enhance the identification and protection of unaccompanied minors in the WB; b) to improve prevention efforts on migration of UAMs through awareness rising. These aims will be realised through a set of project activities organized under two project components. The first one of which foresees to undertake a national gap analysis of responses to migration component will focus on the analysis of the situation of UAMs in each WB country including the analysis of policies, legislation and institutional capacities for addressing challenges related to emigration of UAMs. The activities under the second project component will aim at raising the awareness of the overall population in each WB country on the rights of minors, as well as risks of engaging in irregular migration toward the European Union.
The project complements also the activities of the on-going IOM Tirana intervention “Foster social inclusion of Roma communities in Albania through targeted interventions for vulnerablechildren”, funded by the EU Delegation in Albania.
