Project type: Counter Trafficking

Geographical coverage: Albania and the United Kingdom

Executing agency: International Organization for Migration

Beneficiaries: Albanian victims of trafficking returning voluntarily from the UK and reintegrated in Albania

Partner(s)Trafficking Agencies

Duration: November 2013 - September 2015

The objective of the project is to establish a dedicated post arrival assistance package for victims of trafficking (VoTs) that helps them resettle in a humane and sustainable way and mitigates the risk of re-trafficking.

The reintegration support aims at empowering the VoTs to integrate in the community and to live independently. Besides providing direct assistance to the beneficiaries, the project helps strengthening of the capacities of local service providers for victim of trafficking support by testing the structures that have been put in place, in order to ensure better coordination of the Albanian NGOs and Government. The support is provided in full compliance with the provisions of the national mechanisms for identification, referral and assistance to victims of trafficking (NRMs) in the UK and in Albania.

Individual victims of trafficking wishing to return to Albania are referred to IOM which receives information on individual data, work experience and education, the process of entering in trafficking, transportation, exploitation, re-trafficking, special needs and risk assessment of the VoTs, pre-departure assistance, transfer assistance, reception assistance, reintegration needs and monitoring.

Following the informed decision of the individual victim to return voluntarily, IOM in Albania prepares the reception assistance. The reception assistance is provided in coordination with the government institutions and civil society actors.

Post arrival reintegration assistance planning and delivery
The reintegration plan is tailored according to the needs of each VoT, quality and availability of services required. Depending on the case, the support for reintegration includes: accommodation, education, vocational training, start-up business activity, employment subsidiary salary and medical support.
