Promoting safe migration and preventing human trafficking in Albania

Objective:

The overall objective of the project is to establish new mechanisms of information dissemination concerning procedures, legislation, and legal methods of migration from -and transiting through Albania, and to promote regular migration, prevention of trafficking and social inclusion of victims of trafficking, thereby reducing irregular forms of migration, trafficking and smuggling of human beings.

Description:

The project aims at creating appropriate information channels directed toward potential migrants and vulnerable groups at risk of human trafficking. It takes place within the framework of the Action Plan of the National Strategy on Migration of the Albanian Government and the Albanian National Strategy for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings (2005 – 2007), and follows EU policies of immigration.
Project activities are the following:
- Conduct a survey on the need of information about regular migration and counter trafficking related issues in the regions of Kukes, Peshkopi, Shkoder, Durres, Elbasan and Vlora.
- Implementation of an information campaign on legal and safe ways of migration and the trafficking phenomena. The campaign will reach the general population in the 6 selected areas, as well as will fill in the gabs for information in accordance with the results of the pre-survey.
- Establishment of Mobile Information Center that will serve as the main tool for the implementation of the information campaign.
- Establishment of two dissemination points in North and South Albania to provide information on legal ways of migration, counter trafficking activities, return and reintegration services for returned migrants and victims of trafficking.
- Training of media professionals. The aim of the training is to raise their awareness on regular migration, post migration services, trafficking prevention and support for victims of trafficking and build their capacities in provision of the information on above mentioned topics.
- Training of personnel of public employment offices. The aim of the training is to raise their awareness on regular migration, post migration services, trafficking prevention and support for victims of trafficking and build their capacities in provision of the information on above mentioned topics.
- Establishment of a telephone “hotline” to promote informed migration and to receive reports on cases of human trafficking anonymously.
- Sub granting of direct assistance activities to Victims of trafficking of Vlora Women Hearth – NGO.

Beneficiaries:

The direct beneficiaries from the project are individuals with a potential to migrate in the future and groups vulnerable to human trafficking, victims of trafficking, as well as officials from the Albanian National Employment services, NGOs, journalists and media professionals.
