The purpose of this project was to facilitate the voluntary return of stranded irregular migrants in Albania to their respective countries of origin. The project assisted migrants who entered Albania irregularly on their way to Western Europe. The project also helped reduce present and future onward irregular migration to Western Europe and alleviate the burden of irregular migration for those countries. IOM Tirana assisted 147 stranded migrants, mainly from Turkey, but also from Bulgaria and the Ukraine. This project was completed in November 2002.
